CAR ENTHUSIAST

The area's sunny, dry weather makes Central Oregon an ideal location for car enthusiasts to discover, maintain and show off their most prized possessions.

Central Oregonians love their cars. With countless days of sunshine and hundreds of miles of scenic roadways, it’s no wonder Redmond is home to numerous car events throughout the year.

A well-known benefit of our dry climate is the minimized threat of rust, helping our classic treasures last for years. This also increases the likelihood of great “barn finds” being discovered in remarkably well-preserved condition. What car buff doesn’t dream of finding that one-owner, low-mile classic sitting in a forgotten location, just waiting to be discovered and brought back to life?

Hang around a few car events and you’ll hear countless stories of great discoveries, resurrections of junkyard relics, and fond memories of cars from the past. Truly nothing is more woven into the American fabric than the automobile and our love affair with chrome, steel, and glass. Here in Redmond, we celebrate the automobile every chance we get.

While you will see classic cars out and about on any sunny day with clear roads, the first car show of the season is traditionally the Spring Fling Car Show at Diego’s in downtown Redmond. Car show season continues after that, to the delight of car aficionados across the region, and draws more than 200 cars annually.

These shows include the Tiger Run GTOs in May; Hagemeister Annual Cruise-In in June, the Central Oregon Street Rods Car Show in July, the Drifter Harvest Car Show in August and the High Desert Swap Meet in September. Also this summer, the Horseless Carriage Club of America will be cruising throughout the Redmond area in mid-June.

With many more shows in between, the season speeds by faster than a hot rod on a drag strip. If you own a classic or custom rod, be sure to bring it with you, who knows, you might just go home with a trophy.
