Petersen Rock Gardens was started in 1935 by Rasmus Petersen. A farmer by trade but an artist at heart, Mr. Petersen used local rocks that included petrified wood, agate, jasper, thundereggs, malachite, lava and obsidian to sculpt by hand the over four acres that are now the gardens. Castles, ponds, bridges, miniature churches and even the flag of the United States are a few of the sculpted highlights at Petersen Rock Gardens.
