SUMMER

To experience the outdoors in the High Desert is to experience life at its fullest. There really is nothing like Central Oregon on a sunny day. Let the magic of the fresh mountain air work its wonders on your soul, melt away every care, and heighten your senses. Take in the sights and sounds of the river and listen for the cry of an osprey gliding overhead. You will have a greater appreciation for life as you soak up the peace and serenity of the high desert.

Central Oregon is also loved by our furry and sometimes overly excited (slobbering) four-legged friends. This place is said to be one of the most dog-friendly areas in the state. Bring your tail-wagging friend to the river, lakes, hotels, and even into many restaurants. Sharing the Redmond experience with our family members (including the four-legged ones) is what a visit here is all about, and pets are welcome in almost every corner of the region.

The popularity of mountain biking has helped put Central Oregon on the map. Bike trails offered here are like no other rides in the country. Scenic views of Smith Rock, Gray Butte, and Cline Butte are truly spectacular, must-see spots in Central Oregon. At Smith Rock you will bike on gravel paths with a few easy rock sections, perfect for the entire family. Remember to ride along the river trail and around the point to see the famous “Monkey Face”, a unique rock formation--you will be amazed! Gray Butte trail is also accessible from Smith Rock or Skull Hollow Trail Head and provides gravel trails with a few rocks here and there to keep you on your toes. Cline Butte (Maston) Trails offer a wide range of riding challenges, all of which will keep your heart rate up. Several of the trails offer flat terrain with the usual small rollers, making it a fun ride for every age and skill level. Radlands have been added in the past year and are some of the best within Redmond city limist. Trail Heads are at the High Desert Sports Complex and Antler Ave. The Radlands are great trails for all skill levels. Radland Map is available by clicking here. All of the trails offer breathtaking views and are well worth the effort of getting out there. All three trails are easy to travel with only a few difficult sections. You can always stop and walk, we won’t tell anyone. Enjoy!
