What is Hospice?

Hospice is a type of care focused on comfort and quality of life for people who are nearing the end of life. Unlike hospital care, which often aims to cure illness, hospice is about helping patients live as fully and comfortably as possible in their final months, weeks, or days.

What to Expect from the Hospice Team

The hospice team includes nurses, doctors, social workers, chaplains, and trained volunteers who all work together to support both the patient and their family. Here’s what they do:

Manage Pain and Symptoms: The team helps keep the patient comfortable, relieving pain and managing symptoms so they can feel at ease.
Emotional and Spiritual Support: Hospice isn’t just about physical comfort; team members also provide emotional and spiritual care tailored to the patient’s wishes and beliefs.
Guidance and Education: Families receive guidance on what to expect and how to care for their loved one, as well as support for their own needs.
