CAVING IN CENTRAL OREGON

Explore ancient lava caves all over Central Oregon. Go spelunking!

REDMOND CAVES

Most of Central Oregon’s caves are south of Bend, Oregon off China Hat Road and Highway 97, but few know about the Redmond Caves. Located near the Redmond Airport, the Redmond Caves are a natural wonder that was formed by ancient volcanic eruptions from over 7,700 years ago. You can go caving anytime of year. Summer is a lovely time to go when you want to escape the high desert heat — the caves stay a cool 45 degrees year-round.

Before you go, make sure you have proper gear like a headlamp with extra batteries, proper shoes, and a jacket or layers for warmth. And bring a friend.

DIRECTIONS: The Caves are located 0.8 miles south the Redmond Airport on SW Airport Way in Redmond, OR (between the airport and the Deschutes County Fairgrounds).
